Excitement filled the Welsh Auditorium in Casper, Wyoming September 28, 2008, when Amy David of Pinedale, Wyoming was named Miss Wyoming Teen USA 2009. The crowd cheered as the 17-year-old, first-time pageant contestant was crowned for her new title.
Amy says, “If you believe in yourself, and put your mind to what you want, then you can do anything, and that’s exactly what I did.” One of her largest goals was fulfilled, and she is very proud to represent Wyoming at the Miss Teen USA pageant.
As junior attending Pinedale High School, Amy puts high priority on her academics and sports. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the president of her class, a national science fair competitor and seven-year trumpet player. Amy is a member of her school’s varsity track and alpine skiing teams. “Sports teach us personal drive and develop character,” Amy says, “I learned to ski when I learned to walk. I have been an avid ski racer for many years, and recently began competing in aerial ski jumping nationally.”
Her favorite charity is “Heifer International” which sends various livestock to needy communities across the world to provide them with food, clothing and income. “It’s awesome how an individual can help with a global issue, world hunger,” says Amy.
With a speech on glacial recession, Amy is the Wyoming FFA State Prepared Public Speaking Champion. She was a state 4-H leadership team officer last year, in which she put on leadership camps and workshops for youth across the state.
Three words that describe Amy are enthusiastic, positive and athletic. She also enjoys dancing, playing with her pets, drawing, and listening to music. She sees three main possible career paths including, acting, motivational speaking, or pediatric medicine.
Amy’s favorite quote its, “You are you, that is truer than true, there is no one alive that is youer than you,” by Dr. Seuss. She adds, “I believe self expression, following our dreams, and being strong individuals from the inside out.” Amy emphasizes, “I have a goal to inspire youth to work hard in school, become active in their communities, take pride in their health and fitness, and believe in themselves to become the best that they can be.”
